Welcome to the Fredericktown Local Schools Official Website

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. I am pleased to share with you that Fredericktown School District once again has been named an Excellent School District by Ohio Department of Education! This is the third year in a row the district has earned this rating. We are the only district in the county to have received this distinction.

In the Freddiescope you will find information regarding the half of a percent earned income tax the Board of Education approved for the November election. This form of tax has only been legal for school districts since 2006. As of January 1st of this year there were 181 school districts that have income taxes as part of their revenue; 25 of these are earned income taxes. You will also find a sample of the ballot as it will appear in November. Although there are a few similarities between both the traditional income tax and the earned income tax, it is our belief the earned income tax offers a great deal more savings for our voters. For example, earned income includes only earned income and self-employment and excludes other types of income that would be taxable under the traditional income tax base.

We are very fortunate to have a staff of dedicated and professional people working with our students daily. I continue to support the idea that our rigorous and relevant curriculum and instruction, along with strong relationships and a welcoming learning environment, will make difference for every student.

I have enjoyed getting to know many of you through the years. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our young people. Join me as we celebrate the new school year with hard work, enthusiasm, knowledge, compassion, and high expectations, both as a community and a school. Working together will not only make us stronger, but will ensure that our local schools retain local values and beliefs, while remaining the center of the community, where our young people strive for excellence with your help and support.

Gratefully,

James P. Peterson
